WRITING ASSIGNMENT #1
Assignment 1: Building on the exercise from class, write 30 words that describe a moment in time and space. Pair this moment with 2 photos. One photo will come from your own camera and the other from any other source. Remember that specific details can bring your writing to life and connect your reader to the moment. You will have only 30 minutes to do the assignment, so you will need to time yourself. Be prepared to share your 30 words and why you chose your particular photos for the assignment.
Before you do your writing assignment read the article by Gay Talese about Frank Sinatra. The article gives great examples of how details can bring a story to life.

FLY THE COUPE!
Tranquility now seemed lost reflecting recent dives in Thailand. Nothing like freedom submerges so deep. How can one live a perfect picture perfect dream? You got to “Fly the coupe.” - Jeremiah Shattuck.
Equipment Used: Iphone 7plus camera, changed the hue and light saturation.
Below is the reflection photo that I found to meet the 30 words written.
So I did this assignment influenced absolutely by the recovery of the jet lag recently flying back from South Asia and starting another Fall term at Southern Oregon University SOU. I am very excited to take the OAL 435 Adventure Writing and Photography class however when you're staring out your window with the morning sun and birds and bees humming along doing their dance, walking to school and sitting in class the next few hours repetitively for the next 10 weeks doesn't seem so appetizing. I couldn't shake the images of the underwater world scuba diving off Koh Bida Nok in Thailand. Heck I think I was suffering from decompression of body memory sensory dis-funtioning, like my body just saying put me under 14 meters again. That pressure, that stillness, that calmness and now a bunch of motors, clanking, hiking, petrol fumes, all sorts of noise trying to rub me just right in the wrong ways that traumatize you if you're so adventurous and always fly free. Well thats what was getting me was the lack of freedom over the choice of going to school to achieve this degree. So ok I'll do it and click with my iPhone just taking one more step forward. Just to let you know though I'm returning straight back to Thailand after this class. Im itching too much. I feel this is how I should spend my winter term on break and get my Padi Master Diver Certification and perhaps have some type of underwater camera equipment by then.
So this is the title "THE DAILY GRING", it's my grind and nothing more than I wish is to be this bird and go for adventure. The reflection photo was harvested off google of course and it captivated the same feeling I had looking out my window watching the birds take turns eating their breakfast seed while I waited to walk to school. I think it was a swell choice for the writing portion yet great contrast to my original photo. I feel that I am in the cage. What can one only do at this point? You gotta fly the coupe!
